WHAT IS A SKU

SKU stands for "Stock Keeping Units". A SKU is a combination of letters and/or numbers that is used internally by retailers, online sellers, warehouses and fulfillment sellers, in order to identify, track and control inventory.

In CrazyLister, SKUs allow you to link active listings across multiple channels and sites for the purpose of maintaining stock levels updated and prevent overselling.

CREATING SKUS

A SKU can be made up of any combination of letters and/or numbers, and can be up to 40 characters long. Every business may set up SKUs differently, yet there is almost always a systematic method involved in order to make it easy to understand them and create new ones. In general, try to keep your SKUs as short yet informative as possible (eg. 10 characters).

For example, a footwear seller may use a code structure that looks like this:

WHO & ACTIVITY - BRAND - SIZE & COLOR

Using the above code structure, SKUs may look like this:

  • MR-NK-9BLU (Men's Blue Nike Running Shoes Size 9)

  • WW-AD-55PNK (Women's Pink Adidas Walking Shoes Size 5.5)

  • KD-DS-4BRN (Kid's Brown Deer Stags Dress Shoes Size 4)

  • etc.

Every unique product should have a unique SKU of its own. Maintaining unique SKU codes will allow you to quickly locate, review and manage the inventory for products that are listed on multiple channels or sites.

INCLUDING SKUS IN LISTINGS

When creating new listings in the Products Catalog, a SKU is obligatory. The "SKU" field is found under the "Inventory and pricing" tab in the product's Edit page.

In eBay listings, you will find the "SKU / Custom Label" field under the "Product details" tab:

NOTE:

If you sell a certain item on multiple channels or sites, setting the same
SKU to all relevant listings for the item will allow you to control the
stock level in bulk.
